Dominican Republic Mission
July 2008

First we would like to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and financial support of our trip this past July. And what a trip it was, we are still trying to recover. Hace calor! (It was very hot!) We were without water three quarters of the time and when that happens you have a stinky, I mean sticky situation. (Ha-Ha!) Because of the water situation we had to buy water to drink and find someone with a well so we could bathe the children and clean the center. All in all everything was good. We kept very busy working at the center teaching the children English through song, dance and games. We helped in the kitchen at the center, doing dishes, preparing food, and serving the children their meals. A couple of us even got to try chicken feet. Ugh! I guess it wasn't too bad.

First Christian Church of Massillon collected hygiene items (enough for four 50 lbs. suitcases) to give to the center and pass out at Bible school. Bible school was great! The children in the village love to sing about Jesus, make crafts and participate in the Bible lessons. In the evening we would practice drama to prepare for our service at the park in the center of town. This is how the service started, we began with a Christian march at the center of town with the children. We rented a truck with huge speakers that played Christian music and the children carried signs that said God loves you. As we walked, danced and sang about God's love in the streets of El Valle, two to three hundred people joined the march, it was awesome. After we arrived at the park the children and the mission group sang in English, we danced to a song called Shackles, did drama, had a message, and enjoyed a band. It was very exciting to be apart of this. It is awesome how the people of the village take part in our ministry. To God be the glory!
